Oracle and JavaFX

At JavaOne Larry Ellison talked about Java and about Oracle’s commitment to this language (the video can be seen here). This is very interesting because he talked also about JavaFx and about the pain of building applications using HTML and Ajax (I agree with him, at least for building RIAs). While it’s premature to talk about full Oracle support for JavaFx (which means they would compete with Flash & Silverlight), I think it will be interesting to see what will happen, taking into account that they also invested a lot in ADF (JSF based framework).

Cornel, the fact that Oracle invested in ADF does not mean much. Oracle dropped it’s own IAS in favor of BEA’s Weblogic because it was a better product. Oracle preferred Flex versus ADF for similar reasons. Both JavaFx and the hardware platform do not perform well but Larry assured that they will continue to support them. It seems logical since both complete the Oracle tech stack. But since Oracle is very success oriented, don’t be surprised if they will disappear on the way if they don’t meet the expectations. Or maybe sooner.
